Finite Element Analysis of Inlet Casing of Gas Turbine

  • The current design of the inlet casing has stiffness close to 7MN/m. while the desired stiffness is 175MN/m. This stiffness needs to be achieved with minimum weight to the structure.
  • This objective can be achieved by using advanced design methodologies.
  • The design study will produce a transfer function that describes the static stiffness of the casing as a function of various geometric features and boundary condition.
  • These transfer functions will be used to determine the most robust casing design for the inlet casing while minimizing weight.
  • To achieve this, a total of 91 models were analyzed to get optimized transfer function.
